Welcome to the home of Solent Community Choir

Come and sing with us!

Solent Community Choir
We are a harmonious team of adult singers who find joy in rehearsing and performing. We meet weekly during term time in order to develop our repertoire and get ready for our concerts. The choir is led by experienced, award-winning musicians Wendy Blunn and Nick Blunn and rehearsals take place on Thursday evenings 7.30pm-9pm at Holy Rood Church in the centre of Stubbington. Come and join us and have some fun.

We enjoy a wide variety of songs from Pop and Gospel to light classical and sacred works. But always with a smile.

Enthusiasm and a love of music is essential, a sense of rhythm is desirable  - but it’s not necessary to be able to read a musical score!

"Thank you so much for the wonderful concert at St Edmunds last Sunday. It was a perfect mix of traditional carols and choral pieces. The Choir sang beautifully and I felt quite emotional listening to them.

The inclusion of the traditional carols and the song sheets for the audience was lovely and everyone enjoyed joining in with the singing. It really was a perfect way to start Advent and our count-down to Christmas. I do appreciate you taking time to organise this. It is very popular with our members and it was lovely to see the church so full. The donations raised just over £300 which is very much appreciated.

Please would you convey my thanks to all the Choir for give up their time and for giving us such an enjoyable recital. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

It would be great if we could arrange a return visit for next year.

Many thanks and very best wishes"

About Us

Wendy Blunn  Director of Music

Wendy is the Musical Leader of our Choirs.

Involved in the study and performance of a variety of music from an early age, Wendy was in the woodwind section of Lancashire Schools Wind Band.

Perhaps this is where her love of going 'on tour' started?

Wendy is a graduate of Birmingham School of Music (Now Conservatoire) and studied composition, singing and orchestral oboe as well as piano.

A highlight was that she played the Cor Anglais for a year whilst at college (think Hovis advert!) Wendy also has twelve letters after her name. Greedy!

After holding several residencies as a piano/vocalist at hotels,
Wendy performed in the inaugural season of the Birmingham branch of
Ronnie Scotts Club with her own band.

Wendy started a family and went on to lead a successful music department in a boarding school at Malvern whilst continuing to develop her career as a singer and performer. At the suggestion of the Headmaster, Wendy started her first Community Choir and soon found that this was what she enjoyed the most.

She became very accomplished at leading and developing choirs and has taken a variety of groups to success at festivals in the UK and abroad over many years.

In 2011, Wendy and her family moved to Hampshire to begin life at West Hill Park School in Titchfield. Following a successful ten years in charge of Music, Wendy has now moved forward into the next phase of her career.
She continues to work with children during the week both privately and as a member of Hampshire Music Service. She teaches piano and singing.

Nick Blunn Assistant Director of Music

Nick is our Manager and Accompanist.

Nick was a chorister at Pershore Abbey and studied classical piano with the organist Rodney Clifford Baldwin, gaining a distinction at grade 8 piano in 1983.

Musical opportunities in rural Worcestershire were limited - as a young wannabe musician he accompanied ballet classes and amateur dramatic productions at the Swan Theatre, Worcester whilst also developing an interest in jazz piano. After studying Music and Engineering at Uni, he trained to become a maths teacher, qualifying in 1996.

Almost immediately, he was invited to join the Jump 'n' Jive band 'The King Swingers' and toured Europe, playing at the Big Band d'Aix-en-Provence on the same programme as the Duke Ellington Orchestra, briefly sharing a piano stool with Michel Legrand. He also played at one of Peter Gabriels's birthday parties and became a regular performer at Kensington Roof Gardens and the 606 Club in Chelsea. Nick was also a member of the City Of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Octet which gave several high profile concerts of Duke Ellington's music.

Nick was subsequently invited to become a member of the examiner panel for the ABRSM and he worked on the UK examination circuit for fifteen years before stepping back to concentrate more on family and music-making.

Nick enjoys arranging popular songs for the Community Choir.
